When most people think about family photos, they picture everyone standing in a field at sunset. And while there is nothing wrong with that, your session doesn’t have to fit into one box. Some of my favorite sessions have happened at splash pads, swimming in the lake, backyards, ice cream shops, downtown streets, and anywhere your family naturally has a lot of fun. The best photos usually come from doing something special together- not from asking everyone to smile at the camera.

This recent splash pad maternity session is the perfect example. Her son got to run around, splash, laugh, enjoy his favorite treat on a hot day, and simply just be himself while we documented this season before baby arrives. Instead of worrying about keeping everyone clean and perfectly posed, we leaned into FUN. The result was a gallery full of real connection, genuine smiles, and memories they will actually remember.
