There’s this idea that studio photos are “boring.”
That they might be too stiff. Too posed. Too perfect.
And maybe they can be…..if you walk into a studio session thinking it has to like the pictures you’ve saved on pinterest.
But that’s not what I do and that is not how I run my sessions.
Because the real beauty isn’t in the background or the props or the checklist of poses you have.
It’s in what happens when you take all the noise away and your kids stop performing….. and start being themselves.
That’s the case for simple studio photos.
Not because they are trendy. Not because they are “clean.” But because they get straight to the part you ACTUALLY care about.
Your CONNECTION. Your KIDS. Your MOTHERHOOD.
And the kind of emotion you don’t have to force.
The Case for Simple Studio Photos (When You Want Emotion, Not a Production)
Outdoors can be gorgeous- I absolutely love it. BUT outdoor sessions also come with ….a lot.
Wind. Sweaty pits. Bugs. Unpredictable weather. Kids jumping in creeks. (which this is all MY vibes.)
But for some Mamas, this is not what they envision as fun.
For some this can be overwhelming and exhausting.
A studio session is opposite of that.
No distractions. No chasing sunlight. No weather stress. No wondering if your toddler will land in the lake and get all muddy .
Just a calm space. Warm light. And a photographer who knows exactly how to pull out real connection out of real life- without making it feel like a performance show.

Why Studio Photos Aren’t Boring (If You Do Them Right)
Here is the truth:
Aa studio session doesn’t create emotion. It reveals it.
When you strip away the external chaos- not your kiddos- your kiddos are welcome as-is. Your images start reflecting that.
The way your baby grips your hand, the way your toddler melts into your chest, the way you exhale when you realize you don’t have to fix anything.
Simple studio photos don’t rely on scenery.
They rely on what’s already there.
That is why they hit differently.

A Real Life Example: A Motherhood Session in My West Bottoms Studio:
This session took place in my West Bottoms studio in Kansas City, and it’s exactly why I love this space.
Mom chose two different looks-because if we are being honest, motherhood isn’t one vibe.
Sometimes you feel soft and calm and connected. Sometimes you feel bold. Sometimes you just want to look like yourself again.
So we did a little of both.
We started simple and timeless-clean, emotional and close. Then changed it up with a second look that felt more elevated.
And in between? We didn’t force a thing.
We let her kiddo climb in. We let him wiggle. We let him laugh. We let him nurse. We let him just be himself.
And that is where the authentic story showed up.
Because when you’re not too busy thinking about the photo….. you finally get the moment.
If you have been waiting for life to feel calmer before you book photos…. I get it.
But that stage is not meant to be perfect. It is meant to be remembered.
